Gamle Strynefjellsvegen

We left Geiranger and headed east into the mountains. Our destination was a small town on the Nordfjord, but there was a lot to see along the way. The first major attraction was a road know as the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen. This road was built primarily for its scenic value entirely by manual labor in the late 19th century. I'm afraid these photos don't really do it justice. We also made a quick side trip to a scenic cluster of traditional sod roof cottages watched over by some curious sheep. A short side trip off the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen is an old preserved settlement. It is no longer inhabited, except by sheep. These old traditional houses are preserved as part of the cultural heritage.
