The Oseberg Ship - 820 AD
Found in Slagen, Vestfold, Norway in a large burial mound.
The Oseberg ship is the oldest clinkerbuilt ship with certain rig known in Scandinavia so far. It represents an early type of Viking ships, built shortly after the introduction of sail and rig in Scandinavia. It is shorter than the longships which were built in the 10th century and on. The Oseberg ship is determined to belong to the Viking ship class called "karv" (old norse "karfi").EuropeMichael WalkerMichael Walker PhotosNorwayOsebergskipetOsloPlacesThe Oseberg Viking ShipViking Ship Museummichaelwalkerphotoswww.michaelwalkerphotos.com
