Evora
After Lagos I was ready to head inland and get away from the tourist crowds at the beach. I arrived in Evora by bus at about 4:30 in the afternoon. Evora is in the southeast of Portugal in the Alentejo region. This part of the Alentejo is hot and arid. The summer of 2017 was especially warm, Portugal was experiencing lots of wildfires, though not here. Evora is a compact walled city, everything is within an easy walk. There is a lot of history in this little town, first ruled the Romans, followed by the Visigoths, then the Moors and finally the Portugese. Evora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
